I am originally from Houston. I transferred to the University of Houston from Southwestern University a year ago. I am a senior psychology major and history minor. My previous writing experiences in college have primarily been in my psychology and history classes. I have already taken the equivalent of ENGL 1304 at Southwestern. Most of my writing has been research papers and proposals in psychology. They follow a pretty strict structure that I learned in research methods, which is helpful.

Generally, I dread most writing assignments and try to procrastinate getting started on them. The hardest part of writing for me is starting a paper or even a new paragraph. I try to outline and plan my writing or topic before I begin, but I have difficulty organizing my writing so that it flows and makes sense. My research methods professor pointed out to me that I have trouble using transitions to make my writing flow and more clear. I hope that this course will help make the writing process easier and more approachable for me. I would also like my writing to become more organized and easier for readers to understand. It is usually helpful if I have some structure when given writing assignments.

I am really not a very interesting person, but I am a pretty big nerd. I have always enjoyed technology and playing computer and console games. About a year ago, I was introduced to a game that has pretty much consumed my free time called World of Warcraft. When I am not busy playing my gnome character in the game, I am usually studying, sleeping, or working. I work as a lifeguard at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center.
